Project Description

The Small Business Rent Relief project aims to mitigate the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on small businesses in unincorporated Los Angeles County by targeting small tenant businesses that are behind on rent payments and need financial assistance. The project will prioritize locations in the Unincorporated County area with the highest need as indicated in the COVID-19 Recovery Index.

Goals & Objectives

Goal Description The Small Business Rent Relief Project's goal is to aid in the economic recovery of small businesses in unincorporated Los Angeles County by providing rent relief for businesses negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring economic viability and employment creation and retention.

Objective Description The objectives of the Small Business Rent Relief Project are to increase employment creation and retention and assist small businesses located in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles to be financially stable and resilient. Grants will range from $5,000 to $40,000 based on the amount of rent owed from March 4, 2020, to the time of grant issuance.

Activity Description The Small Business Rent Relief Project will prioritize the distribution of grants in unincorporated areas of the County that are historically underserved, marginalized, or adversely affected through the COVID-19 Vulnerability and Recovery Index (Index) which identifies communities most in need of immediate pandemic and economic relief interventions based on a set of risk factors. The Project will ensure long-term viability and employment creation and retention. DCBA will partner with the National Development Corporation to conduct outreach in high-need tier communities and collaborate with DCBA to coordinate legal assistance services.
